Faith Float debuts at Rondo

On July 19th, our Faith Float made a successful debut in the Rondo Days parade. Thanks to all who participated, especially Dick Buggs for organizing and providing the energy, Ted Lentz for moving the idea forward and securing a truck, Rev. Carl Walker and Marilyn Campbell for leading our singing, and to all the people who sang throughout the parade.

Where should the Faith Float appear next?

Following our most successful weekend with the Shades of Praise, representatives of our churches met to consider next steps.  Listed below are a few of the ideas that people suggested. These and others are under consideration for follow-up action.
  • Have ministers share/swap pulpits with each other
  • Form an inter-church, inter-faith St. Paul choir
  • Hold pancake breakfasts sponsored by 2 or more churches
  • Develop a faith float for Rondo Days or Grand Ol Days
  • Organize a multi-church rehab trip to New Orleans
  • Faith exchange days in which we attend each others' churches
  • All-church bowling night
  • Circle suppers involving members from different churches
  • Inter-church discussion groups on spirituality and theology
If you or your church would like to take the lead in organizing one of these activities or a similar activity, please contact:

Please also suggest other ideas, particularly those you have the energy to organize.

The question posted below provoked a most interesting discussion at a recent inter-faith meeting.  Do you have insights to offer on this question?

What promise have you made to a loved one
that also speaks to your position on race?
The concept of the beloved community is the driving force behind Raising Our Voices. Yet this phrase can mean many different things. To Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. it meant:

...a society of opportunity, compassion, and justice
rooted in our shared daily experiences.

What does the term beloved community mean to you?
